| Statement of Purpose: | Virtuosi of Houston was formed to create a pre-professional climate and performance opportunities for Houston’s most focused young musicians (11-18 years of age) regardless of race, religion or financial status and to bring an expanded repertoire of chamber orchestra works to Houston audiences. - Virtuosi of Houston (VoH) is a 501 ( c )(3) organization founded in 1996 by Conductors and Artistic Directors Franz Anton Krager and Andrzej Grabiec; both of whom are professors at the University of Houston Moores School of Music. - VoH is a unique youth orchestra of 40 to 50 talented young artists who play at the exemplary level required in a smaller sized chamber orchestra. - Student musicians benefit from their joint direction as one maestro conducts from the podium and the other circulates throughout the orchestra tutoring individual players in individual and instrument specific technique. - VoH pre-concert rehearsals in our custom designed studio in Memorial City Mall are open to the public. - VoH’s two chamber music concerts in December and April at Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, Zilkha Hall are made possible through VoH’s ten-year collaboration with Uniquely Houston. - Each February since 1998, a panel of five judges awards a total of $10,500 as scholarships during The Immanuel and Helen B. Olshan Concerto Competition to assist VoH students with their music education expenses for music lessons, instruments, and tuition to summer camps. - The first-place winners in the string and wind divisions are invited to perform as soloists at the April Concerto Concert. - VoH music education curriculum includes a Small Ensemble Program and a Small Ensemble Summer Workshop. - VoH small ensembles are invited to play at a wide array of private and public venues, including pre-concert performances for the Houston Symphony at Jones Hall. - Successful outcomes are realized each year when more than ninety percent of Virtuosi’s graduating seniors continue their music education as performance or music education majors at renowned music schools such as Julliard, Northwestern University, Baylor University, University of Texas, University of Houston, DePaul University, New England Music Conservatory, Curtis University, and the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, Belgium. |
